Biography of Richard Dean Anderson

Richard Dean Anderson, a modern American actor, was born on January 23, 1950 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He gained worldwide fame by portraying the lead role in the television series "MacGyver" and the role of Colonel/General Jonathan "Jack" O'Neill in the legendary television series "Stargate SG-1", which is the longest-running science fiction television series in North American history. Anderson grew up in Roseville, Minnesota and attended Ohio University and St. Cloud State University.

Early Career

Anderson began his acting career with the role of Dr. Jeff Webber in the series "General Hospital" from 1976 to 1981. He also played the role of Adam in the television series "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and gained popularity after the release of the series "MacGyver", which was highly acclaimed throughout its run from 1985 to 1992. In 1995, Anderson starred in the comedy series "Legend", which consisted of only 12 episodes, portraying a detective writer who is forced to become the hero of his own novels.

Stargate SG-1 and Later Career

From 1997 to 2005, Anderson played the lead role of Colonel/General Jack O'Neill in the series "Stargate SG-1", based on the film "Stargate". In the sixth season, Anderson reduced his involvement in the show to focus on raising his daughter. He eventually left the show as a regular cast member and made guest appearances in later seasons. Anderson also appeared in three episodes of the series "Stargate Atlantis". In 2004, he was honored by the United States Air Force for his positive portrayal of the Air Force in "Stargate SG-1".
